Sorry Poem by Sweet Carolina

Sorry

Rating: 5.0

Tonight my voice sounds like pain, low thunder and asphalt being hit by rain.

I can feel the quiver as I shiver from being forced to respond,
'I'm sorry'

I've said 'Sorry' enough to know that I'm really not sorry what I'm saying is really,

'Please let's go to bed'
...cuz
'someone might hear us'
…and
'can't this wait until morning'
and
'you've been drinking'
…so
'let's talk when you're sober'
…and
'aren't you tired yet'
because
'I am'

And you eat my fear
use it for fuel
constantly revving
your angry engine
until once my fear
ain't enough
to keep you going
you antagonize with threats
of neglect
and homelessness
and thrive off my tears
next.

And somehow
I end up laying here
beside you
with my head
on your chest
as you say 'Sorry'
