Baltimore Safe Haven Poem by Sweet Carolina

Baltimore Safe Haven

Baltimore Safe Haven
Or
A poem about freedom

The stroke of a pen
The shake of a hand
The silence that followed
The peace dwelling upon the land
Our dear Governor
A gentle humble man
Declared our state the place of refuge
For all those that are trans
And upon the podium stood
A figure unknown
Whose grace and perseverance
To all of Baltimore she has shown
They call her Iya, or Mother and sis
And if you are without a home,
Food or clothing
she will help you with this
An ordinary saint birthed from the hood
Determined to change this dark world
To a world of light and good
To her we are thankful and owe so much praise
And that blessings may come to all of her days
Mother Iya; a modest poet truly I may be
But I hope my kind words
Shall uplift thee
